Monongalia County, West Virginia

Monongalia County is a very populous area, containing 96,189 residents as of the 2010 (U.S. Census). Popular belief is that the name “Monongalia” is actually a misspelling of Monongahela, the native name of a vast national forest in West Virginia. The locality of the county is on the northern border of the state, which makes Monongalia County widely considered as part of the Pittsburgh Tri-State area of Pennsylvania, Ohio and West Virginia. Morgantown is the county seat of Monongalia County, and this city is also home to the biggest college in West Virginia, West Virginia University.

Other cities and towns in the county include Westover, Blacksville, Granville and Star City. If you’re traveling between these towns or to another part of the state, you’ll likely drive along interstates such as I-68 or I-79. Smaller highways such as Highway 19 and Highway 119 and West Virginia Route 7 are also well-traveled roads in Monongalia County.

Auto accidents in this area are concentrated in the Morgantown region, although they can obviously occur throughout the county. Less than 20 vehicles were involved in fatal auto accidents in Monongalia County in 2013, which is slightly below the average for the state. You might think that drunk driving accidents are a concern here, due to the high population of students at the university in Morgantown, but the levels are actually slightly lower than the state’s average. Regardless of what type of accident you’ve been involved in, it’s vital that you have reliable legal representation on your side.
